Job summary

The Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) Clinic Clerk role involves efficient patient registration, transfer, and discharge, with thorough medical record compilation for charts and reports. You will maintain accurate accounts receivable and support documentation for statistical reporting.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, collecting payor information, processing charges/payments, and coordinating with insurers for precertifications.

Qualifications

• Must type 60 words per minute accurately.
• Basic computer skills in Word and Excel.
• Knowledgeable of medical terminology, CPT coding and ICD9 coding.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients courteously, determines their needs, and offers assistance.
• Registers patient by performing necessary procedures, such as preparation of records, reports, notices, service charge slips, and payor information.
• Interviews patients or others to determine payment arrangements and refers unusual cases to supervisor.
• May assist self-pay patients in making suitable arrangements for balances due beyond initial deposits or third-party payments.
• Answers inquiries to patient accounts and advises patient on insurance benefits.
• Receives all payments and deposits, issues receipts, and maintains proper accounting for funds.
• Posts charges daily to patient accounts and posts payments to accounts daily.
• Bills patients within established policies and procedures and determines billing methods for third-party payors.
• Maintains required registers for Medicare, Medicaid and others as required.
• Contacts insurance carriers for precertification of procedures.
• May transport patients in wheelchairs.
• Operates office equipment (copiers, fax, etc.) and maintains filing systems.
• Maintains income register and reports of adjustments to accounts receivable.
• Maintains records of communications and appointment schedules for Clinic Physicians.
• Maintains logs of patient charts issued and missing charts.
