Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Pathology Referral Assistant in Surgical Pathology Services. This part-time position centers on organizing tissue slides and paraffin blocks, processing retrieval requests, and preparing materials for return to outside facilities.

You will use the LIS system to document movements, coordinate mail and courier duties, and support daily department operations. Strong attention to detail is essential in a fast-paced pathology environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Organizes patient tissue slides/paraffin blocks in numerical order for archive and retrieval.
• Processes requests for return or retrieval of tissue slides/blocks from warehouse and documents receipt in LIS.
• Prepare tissue slides and paraffin blocks for mailing to outside facilities and verify case against mailing labels.
• Package materials to prevent breakage and deliver to mailroom or carrier.
• Pick up and deliver departmental mail and sort to staff mailboxes.
• Other duties as assigned
