Job summary

VCU Health in Richmond, VA seeks a Laboratory Support professional to assist clinical/anatomical laboratories by resolving order/specimen issues and answering phone inquiries about test results and collection criteria. Responsibilities include preparing blood cooler shipments, receiving inventory, scanning slides, filing tissue blocks, and performing daily/weekly/monthly equipment maintenance.

Role includes specimen accessioning, CLIA Waived testing where applicable, and data entry.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Work experience may be considered in lieu of credentials where permitted.
• One year of post-secondary health science education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Resolve problems with orders and specimens and respond to telephone inquiries for results.
• Prepare coolers for blood delivery, receive blood product inventory, scan slides, and file tissue blocks.
• Maintain equipment and perform pre-analytical specimen manipulation and accessioning.
• Perform pre-analytical procedures, including plating and preparation for testing as required.
• Assist with ordering/inventory processes and data entry; provide courier services as needed.
• Adhere to safety policies, manage workload, and support quality control activities.

Education

One year post high school education in Health Science
