Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems seeks a Laboratory Support role to assist clinical and anatomical laboratories by resolving order/specimen issues and responding to test results inquiries. You will receive, accession, and deliver specimens, prepare pre-analytical processes, and help maintain quality control and data entry accuracy.

The position requires high school completion with preference for health-science coursework and a willingness to work evenings.

Qualifications

• Previous experience using a personal computer and entering data.
• Work experience in a clinical/ reference laboratory or college lab coursework is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide support services for clinical/anatomical laboratories by resolving order/specimen issues and answering test result inquiries.
• Receive, deliver, and report specimens; maintain appropriate specimen designation for testing.
• Register and accession patient material as required by the department.
• Perform pre-analytical specimen preparation including accessioning orders and preparing slides or specimens as needed.
• Maintain workload records and quality control as required for the department.
• Assist with specimen handling and shipping per policy, including dangerous goods when applicable.
