Job summary

Bronson Healthcare in Kalamazoo is seeking a Pathology Lab Technical Assistant to support the Histology lab. You will receive and prepare fluid and tissue specimens, ensure correct labeling and processing, and assist with quality control and maintenance of instruments.

The role requires an Associate's degree and knowledge of medical terminology, strong verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a team.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree from an accredited institution required.
• Experience in medical terminology sufficient to understand and discuss technical aspects of laboratory medicine required.
• Experience with patient specimen handling and knowledge of laboratory practices preferred.
• Competencies for populations served for clinical or non-clinical purposes per laboratory location.
• Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs used for documentation and record keeping in the department.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking and to consult with department leaders as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
• Operates instruments and equipment according to schedule and procedures (examples include T2, ST5020, CV5030, Peloris, HE600, IPC and IPS).
• Verifies instrument function by calibration and running controls.
• Records repairs, replacements, and maintenance in instrument logs.
• Uses laboratory information systems such as CoPath, Epic and Atlas to retrieve orders and accession specimens.
• Responsible for specimen processing and performing only tests trained for.
