Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a science related field.

Responsibilities

• Assures appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
• Maintains the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
• Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.
• Describes gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned.
• Performs grossing of moderate to high complex/complicated specimens under supervision as applicable to training and experience.
• Records measurements, weight, volume, and any abnormal findings as applicable.
• Dissects surgical specimens and prepares tissues for histologic processing.
• Maintains compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
• Assists with Frozen Sections as needed.
• Collaborates with pathologists, histotechnologists, and laboratory staff.
• Performs other duties to support departmental objectives.
