Job summary

NYU Langone Health seeks a Pathologists' Assistant to join our pathology laboratory team. You will perform gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens, prepare tissue for histology, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemical staining, under the supervision of a pathologist.

You will photograph gross specimens, assist in resident training, support educational conferences, and contribute to QA/QI initiatives while maintaining accurate documentation and specimen tracking.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a NAACLS accredited Pathology Assistant training program, or Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, biology or related field, with required previous related experience including surgical pathology, gross dissection of surgical specimens, and frozen sections.
• NYSDOH License as a Pathologist Assistant.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile specimens: assures appropriate specimen accessioning reconciles specimen labeling of logs, containers, blocks, and requisitions.
• Obtain and apply clinical information to analysis and interpretation of the surgical case.
• Gross description: dictate according to protocols and templates with details (color, measurement, shape, weight).
• Dissection of specimens per protocols and procedures.
• Prepare tissue for histological processing and frozen sections; obtain tissue for flow cytometry, electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry; perform faxitron imaging and tumor triage.
