Job summary

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to perform gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens, under the supervision of a pathologist. The role includes preparing tissue for histology, frozen section diagnosis, and coordinating with residents in training.

The position emphasizes accurate specimen accessioning, gross description, and collaboration with attending pathologists, with opportunities to assist in QA/QI initiatives and to participate in resident

Qualifications

• Graduate of a NAACLS accredited Pathology Assistant training program, or Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, biology or related field.
• NYSDOH License as a Pathologist Assistant.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Reconciliation of specimens and accessioning per procedures.
• Apply clinical information to analysis and interpretation of surgical cases.
• Dictate gross descriptions per templates and include measurements, color and weight.
• Dissect specimens according to protocols and prepare tissue for histology or other studies.
• Photograph gross specimens and slides; coordinate with attending pathologist.
