Job summary

Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, invites applications for a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. You will work with subspecialty pathologists and residents in a busy academic environment, performing grossing, sampling, and intraoperative consultations.

This role emphasizes education, collaboration, and participation in quality improvement while handling a broad spectrum of surgical pathology cases and mentoring learners.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA(ASCP)).
• Current New York State PA license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• Strong knowledge of gross anatomy and surgical pathology.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-volume academic setting.
• Experience in academic or high-volume surgical pathology is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection and sampling of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure proper orientation and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult specimens and uphold high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor residents and learners in gross examination and surgical pathology techniques.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, OR personnel and leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation and education initiatives.
