Job summary

Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY seeks a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. You will perform gross examination, sampling, and tissue preparation across a broad case mix, collaborating closely with pathologists and residents.

You will mentor learners, contribute to education and lab practice, and participate in quality initiatives within a busy academic environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• PA(ASCP) certification.
• Current New York State license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
• Strong knowledge of gross anatomy, surgical pathology and lab safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection and sampling of diverse surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen sections with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens with accurate orientation and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult specimens and maintain high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor residents and learners in grossing and surgical pathology techniques.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff and lab leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development and departmental initiatives.
