Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Albany, NY. You will perform gross examinations, dissections and sampling across a broad range of surgical pathology cases, collaborating closely with pathologists and residents.

You will educate learners, support intraoperative consults and frozen sections, and contribute to quality and workflow improvements in a busy academic environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA(ASCP)).
• Current New York State Pathologists' Assistant license (or eligible).
• Strong knowledge of gross anatomy, surgical pathology, specimen handling and safety.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-volume academic setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens, ensuring proper orientation and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult specimens and promote high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor residents and learners; pursue academic title via promotions committee.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff and lab leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation and education.
