Mass General Brigham Community Physicians, Inc. is seeking a Per diem Pathologists' Assistant to join the team at 81 Highland Avenue. The role involves gross dissection, tissue sampling for pathology, and collaboration with residents and students.

The position requires capacity to lift heavy specimens and to work a day shift on-site in Massachusetts. Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Pathology, with a Master’s in Pathologists' Assistant preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Pathology is required.
  • Master's Degree as Pathologists' Assistant is preferred.
  • Clinical pathology knowledge and lab specimen handling are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Dictates gross description and dissection of surgical specimens.
  • Selects and submits tissue sections for microscopic examination.
  • Instructs residents and students in gross description and sampling.
  • Assists in collecting and submitting tissue for teaching, research, or banking.
  • Evaluates tissue for frozen sections and prepares specimens for telepathology review.
  • Oversees specimen storage, records, and disposal.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with policies.

We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.Job SummaryWeekday availability is preferred but flexibleSummaryResponsibilities include collecting samples, processing laboratory specimens, performing postmortem examinations, conducting research and preparing reports to describe their findings.Essential FunctionsDictates gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens (i.e. type, size, weight, color and anatomical characteristics).Selects and submits tissue sections for microscopic examination.Instructs both formally and informally pathology residents, PA students and medical students in the gross description, dissection and sampling of surgical pathology specimens as well as frozen section specimens.Assists in collecting and submitting tissue for a variety of needs, including controls, teaching, research and tissue/tumor banking.Evaluates tissue to sample for frozen section, cuts and stains frozen sections adequately for telepathology review.Oversees specimen storage in the surgical pathology area, keeps records and discards specimens as necessary.Ensures that proper and legal authorization has been obtained to perform a postmortem examination.Required for All JobsPerforms other duties as assignedComplies with all policies and standardsDoes this position require Patient Care (indirect/direct)?
