Mass General Brigham's Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Support Specialist to receive, label, and distribute clinical specimens in a busy hospital setting. The role is onsite with a Monday–Friday 8am-4:30pm schedule and rotating weekends/holidays.

You will verify patient information, accession samples in the laboratory information system, and prepare specimens for testing while maintaining inventory and following safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field preferred; HS diploma acceptable.
  • Experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting 1–2 years preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, label, and distribute clinical laboratory specimens.
  • Verify patient information and accession samples in the LIS.
  • Prepare samples for testing.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies, reagents, and equipment.
  • Follow procedures for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the laboratory area.
  • Collaborate with staff and healthcare providers for timely processing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job Summary

Monday- Friday 8am-4:30pm Rotating Weekends and Holidays required

Responsible for receiving, processing, and distributing clinical laboratory specimens. Does this position require Patient Care? No

Essential Functions
  • Receive, label, and distribute clinical laboratory specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
  • Process specimens by verifying patient information, accessioning samples into the laboratory information system, and preparing samples for testing.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment.
  • Follow established procedures and protocols for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the laboratory area.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards including use of personal protective equipment, proper disposal of hazardous materials, and adherence to laboratory accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by laboratory management.
Qualifications

Education Associate's Degree Related Field of Study preferred or High School Diploma or Equivalent required
