Job summary

Incyte Pathology in Washington seeks a certified Pathology Assistant to perform gross examination of surgical specimens, assist pathologists in frozen sections, and prepare tissue for histologic processing. The candidate will photograph specimens, maintain a clean work area, and support autopsies when required.

Required: NAACLS-accredited PA program graduate, ASCP certification, and ability to work under pressure. Experience of 1+ year preferred; exceptions may be made for OJT candidates.

Qualifications

• Must graduate from NAACLS-accredited PA program and pass ASCP certification
• ASCP certification maintained throughout employment
• Experience at least 1 year preferred, exceptions may apply for OJT pathologists’ assistants

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examination and dictation of surgical specimens
• Photographs gross specimens for teaching and patient reports
• Keeps workspace clean and free of contaminating materials
• Assists Pathologist in frozen section procedures
• Troubleshoots and corrects frozen section preparation issues
• Processes fresh lymph node samples, including touch preps
• Opens uterus, bowel, ovary, etc. for OR consultation and presents findings
• Supports cryostat maintenance and pathology equipment
• Assists Pathologist in autopsies
• Communicates with attending pathologist on special techniques and procedures
• Ensures compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations
• Performs other related duties as assigned
