Job summary

The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates, an independent, non-profit faculty clinical practice group affiliated with George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC, is seeking a full-time Pathologist Assistant. The PA will provide anatomic pathology services under supervision, contribute to education of pathology residents, and support quality assurance initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master of Science degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologist Assistant training program.
• Graduated from an ACGME-accredited Anatomic Pathology residency training program.
• Current and valid ASCP Pathologist Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross dissection, description, and submission of tissue specimens for histologic processing and surgical pathology examination.
• Provide detailed tissue specimen descriptions using electronic and voice recognition dictation systems.
• Perform gross dissection, description, and preparation for intraoperative consultation/frozen section examination, including cryostat sections and slide staining.
• Prepare and submit tissue and other specimens for special laboratory analyses (flow cytometry and molecular tests).
• Dissect and examine organs and tissues during autopsy examinations.
• Prepare for autopsy by obtaining medical records and arranging radiographic studies; perform gross and microscopic photography.
• Teach pathology residents in gross tissue dissection and description techniques, intraoperative consultations, and autopsy dissection.
• Assist in preparing materials for educational conferences and in quality assurance/quality improvement activities.
