Job summary

Mettler Toledo AG seeks a skilled Patent Attorney to join our global in-house IP team reporting to the head of Global IP. You will manage the patent process from disclosure to grant, collaborate with engineers and product managers, and help protect our innovations.

In this role you will conduct prior art searches, prosecute applications across jurisdictions with external firms, and contribute to portfolio strategy while ensuring freedom to operate for new products.

Responsibilities

• Ensure our new products have freedom to operate.
• Manage the patent application process for assigned business units from initial disclosure through grant.
• Deliver cross-functional patent support across multiple business units, proactively managing IP responsibilities based on project stage and milestones.
• With the support of our search team, analyze the patent landscape to identify barriers and opportunities.
• Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications across various jurisdictions with external law firms.
• Collaborate with inventors and product teams to identify patentable inventions.
• Draft and revise patent claims and supporting documentation.
• Monitor deadlines for filings and office actions.
• Assist in developing patent strategies that align with business objectives.
• Provide training to stakeholders to enhance understanding of patent processes and intellectual property rights.
• Support enforcement with the IP and legal team to protect rights across the portfolio.
