Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with semiconductor experience to join their Intellectual Property team in Palo Alto, CA. This role involves preparing draft patent applications and responses to USPTO communications, assisting attorneys in delivering quality legal services efficiently and cost-effectively.

Duties
  • Prepare draft patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions.
  • Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
  • Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
  • Act as liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office.
  • Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions.
  • Advise attorneys on general and specific technologies.
  • Draft, organize, analyze, review, and summarize documents.
  • Communicate with staff, clients, vendors, and PTO personnel.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints.
  • Identify and analyze complex patent issues and implement solutions.
  • Provide direction to legal support staff as appropriate.
  • Stay abreast of technology trends and make recommendations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, material engineering, physics, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the semiconductor industry.
  • Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
