Job Opportunity: Pastry Sous Chef at Sugar Butter Chocolate
Sugar Butter Chocolate, a bakery, wholesale dessert supplier, ice cream shop, and cafe in Crown Heights, is seeking a Pastry Sous Chef to help lead our culinary programs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a bakery, restaurant, or hospitality setting.
- Strong understanding of bakery operations, attention to detail, organization, cleanliness, and staff leadership skills.
- Ability to inspire staff, balance common sense with a commitment to excellence, and aim to exceed guest and client expectations.
Skills & Requirements:
- Flexible schedule, including early mornings and weekends.
- Leadership skills to train, mentor, recruit, and discipline staff.
- Passion for both classic and contemporary pastry and baking techniques.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of profitability, quality assurance, and cost control, including reviewing monthly P&L and purchasing.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Manage all aspects of bakery operations and production.
Competencies & Qualifications:
- At least three years of relevant experience.
- Superior knowledge of pastry techniques, including the principles and formulas involving starches, fats, sugars, liquids, eggs, and flavorings.
- Ability to work under pressure and produce high-quality work efficiently.
- Positive interaction with team members, management, and customers to foster a professional environment.
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business and technical documents.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and manuals.
- Mathematical skills for calculating discounts, proportions, and percentages.
- Active practice of food safety procedures.
- Leadership, training, and motivation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Culinary training or degree preferred but not required.
- Strong English communication skills; Spanish is a plus.
