About Us

First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is a rural congregation situated on the eastern plains of Colorado, just a couple hours east of Denver. Our congregation turned 100 years old this year and has always been mission-minded. In 2002 our members built a beautiful new church building and due to the faithfulness and determination of the members, we are 100% debt free. The new church building offers a large space for the community to have funerals and weddings, and complies with ADA standards. Our average attendance is currently 45 per service and was at 85 per service pre-Covid. Our former Pastor was with us for 17 years. The members gather from the communities of Goodland, KS and Burlington, Bethune, Stratton, Vona, Seibert, and Idalia Colorado. A radius of close to 80 miles. We offer adult and youth Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. We have a combined service with the Methodist and First Christian churches every 5th Sunday of the month. We help provide for the earthly needs of our community through a blessing box, located on the outside of our church. Through this box our members donate around $5,000 in food, per year. We are new to the NALC/LCMC, and we are ready to move forward. While our attendance has dwindled over the last few years, we have a strong core group. We are in need of active pastoral leadership. Someone who will encourage congregational involvement in the life of First St. Paul’s, build a strong foundation with the youth in our community, and be an active part of our communityWe are praying that the Holy Spirt sends us a biblical teaching and loving pastor to join us as a shepherd to guide us in the future, to grow our faith, and grow our congregation. We desire a pastor who is strong with youth and younger families, as well as our older members and willing to be involved in our community. Role Overview

The pastor at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is expected to be deeply rooted in the Bible, the inspired Word of God, and to provide spiritual leadership and guidance to the congregation. The role encompasses teaching, equipping, and encouraging church members for service, as well as leading Bible study and confirmation classes.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity degree
• Ordained, or eligible to be ordained, in LCMC or NALC
• Strong preaching and communication skills
• Strong commitment to the authority of Scripture and Lutheran Theology

Key Responsibilities

• Ground ministry and teaching in the Bible, upholding its authority and inspiration.
• Teach and guide the congregation in spiritual growth and understanding.
• Encourage and equip members for active service within the church community.
• Lead Bible study sessions and confirmation classes for youth and adults.
• Officiate weddings, funerals, and baptisms, providing pastoral care during these significant life events.
• Provide counsel to couples and individuals
• Be a visible and active member of the community, building relationships within and outside our congregation
• Visit the sick, home bound and nursing homes

Burlington is located on the eastern edge of Colorado along I-70. The community offers a small-town atmosphere with close proximity to larger cities for shopping and travel. It is a safe community that has a hospital, a community college, excellent pre-K through 12 school system and is the county seat of Kit Carson County. We have employment opportunities especially in the medical and teaching fields.
