St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilson NY is seeking a faithful, relatable, and community-minded part-time Pastor to lead our congregation. The primary focus of this role is to anchor our community in God’s Word through uplifting worship and to walk alongside our members during life’s most significant milestones.

This is a 0.4 - 0.5 FTE position, offering a wonderful opportunity for a pastor seeking a flexible schedule, a bi-vocational minister, or a retired pastor wishing to remain active in ministry.

Core Responsibilities

1. Worship Leadership & Preaching (Approx. 60%)

• Word & Sacrament: Prepare and deliver scripture-based, relevant sermons that connect Lutheran theology with daily life.
• Worship Planning: Collaborate with the music director/musicians and worship committee to plan and lead weekly Sunday services, as well as special seasonal services (e.g., Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Christmas).
• Sacramental Ministry: Administer the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion in accordance with Lutheran theology.

2. Pastoral Acts & Visitation (Approx. 30%)

• Life Transitions: Officiate and provide pastoral care for Holy Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals/Memorial services for congregants and their families.
• Confirmation classes as needed
• Crisis & Comfort: Provide focused pastoral care, prayer, and visitation for the sick, homebound, or those experiencing acute crisis (hospital visits, phone check-ins).

3. Administration & Community Presence (Approx. 10%)

• Collaboration: Maintain regular communication with congregational leadership (Church Council) and administrative staff.
• Address congregational concerns as needed
• Connection: Act as a warm, welcoming presence to visitors and seekers within the community.
• Conduct Bible Studies as a seasonal option

Qualifications & Skills

• Ordination: Ordained minister in good standing with the LCMC or rostered in a full-communion partner denomination.
• Preferred Master of Divinity degree or equivalent
• Theology: Commitment to Lutheran theology, grace-centered preaching, and the confessions of the church.
