Job summary

Insight Global seeks a Passive Safety Integration Engineer to lead end-to-end integration of electrical passive safety components and participate in system-level design for next-generation electric vehicle platforms. You will be the point person for passive safety on this program and drive bring-up and crash activities across vehicle builds.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Embedded Systems.
• 5+ years with Vehicle Network Protocols such as CAN, LIN & Automotive Ethernet.
• 5+ years designing and developing safety-critical architectures.
• Experience with functional safety, HW/SW tool development, restraints control module calibration.

Responsibilities

• Lead integration of electrical passive safety components and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
• Instrument crash test vehicles and analyze results to prove crashworthiness.
• Participate in crash safety, functional safety and FMEA analyses for subsystems.
• Develop passive safety architecture and ensure proper packaging and interfaces.
• Define interfaces to achieve vehicle functions with hardware and software teams.
• Create detailed electrical device transmittals and own them through production.
• Design test cases and verify system-level functions on benches, lab cars, and vehicles.

Job Description

The Passive Safety Integration Engineer will be responsible for complete end to end integration of electrical passive safety components and participate in the system level design activities for the subsystem. You will be the point person for anything passive safety related on this platform and lead the bring up and crash activities in each of the vehicle builds. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of next-generation vehicle platforms for electric vehicles.

What you’ll be able to do:

• Lead the integration efforts for various electrical passive safety components, such as the restraints control module, pressure sensors, cut-loops, etc.
• Instrument crash test vehicles and conduct experiments to prove crashworthiness of the platform; analyze results and submit thorough reports.
• Participate in crash safety, functional safety and failure avoidance analysis of complex electrical and software vehicle subsystems (HARA, FMEAs, etc.).
• Develop the passive safety architecture and related vehicle features; work with the hardware, software, architecture, safety and other cross-functional teams to deliver said features.
• Work with the design and development engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure passive safety components have appropriate packaging, requirements and interface definition to achieve their specific vehicle functions.
• Develop detailed electrical device transmittals for various passive safety components and own the document until production.
• Design test-cases and verification of system level functions on multiple mediums (benches, lab cars and vehicles) and provide objective based directions to the vehicle safety, simulation, design and test teams.

Skills and Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Embedded Systems
• Strong Electrical and Embedded Systems Engineering fundamentals
• 5+ years of experience with Vehicle Network Protocols such as CAN, LIN & Automotive Ethernet
• Experience and working knowledge of systems development, vehicle architecture, vehicle safety, emerging safety system technologies, software/hardware tool development, restraints control module calibration, functional safety, network and diagnostics process.
• 5+ years of experience designing and developing safety-critical architectures
• 3+ years of experience using embedded networking interface tools for automotive, aerospace or similar
• 5+ year of experience in designing and launching new embedded products from concept to production ·M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Embedded Systems
• Proven technical expertise in Vehicle Safety Systems Design and understanding of the intricacies of the subsystem
• Proficiency in fundamentals of vehicle architecture, embedded systems design, RTOSes and real-time networking
• Experiencing designing and evaluating functional safety concepts in the vehicle safety domain
• Experience in leading product development from concept to deployment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
