Job summary

McKenzie Health is seeking a remote PBX Operator to manage the electronic switchboard, provide directory information, and route calls for the facility with professionalism and confidentiality.

You will maintain on-call staff lists, update directory data in the database, and handle paging and PA announcements to support a safe, responsive communications environment in a high-stress setting. Prior healthcare communications and basic computer skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-3 years’ experience as a switchboard operator.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a daily list of all facility staff on-call, including home phone numbers and beeper numbers.
• Updates the computer database with directory information as needed.
• Provides directory information to internal and external inquirers.

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

PBX Operator - RemotePosition Overview:The PBX Operator receives and relays incoming and outgoing telephone calls for the facility. They will provide directory information, transfers calls as appropriate, enter facility directory information into the computer database, make general and emergency announcements over the facility’s PA system, and handle the facility paging system. This is a fully remote position with the working hours of 8-5 PM.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneKey Responsibilities:Operates an electronic switchboard to route incoming calls and to place outgoing calls.Knowledgeable of all departments and services available in the facilityActs in a professional manner at all times.Maintains a daily list of all facility staff on-call, including home phone numbers and beeper numbers readily available.Maintains current listing of all facility telephone numbers and extensions. Updates the computer database as needed.Provides directory information to internal and external inquirers.Able to place long distance calls and conference calls as needed.Knowledgeable of emergency codes to be used over the PA systemDemonstrates the ability to be organized and flexible in stressful situations.Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.Maintains a working knowledge of all equipment used.Maintains and replaces supplies in the assigned area.As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.Other duties as assigned.McKenzie Health reserves the right to assign, reassign, or eliminate duties and responsibilities as necessary.
