The City of Peoria is seeking a specialized technical parts store worker for the Public Works / Fleet Services Department. The successful candidate will procure and issue fleet parts while maintaining inventories and managing vendor relationships. Applicants must reside within Peoria and possess a high school diploma or GED with relevant experience. This role involves applying independent judgment for purchasing decisions within established guidelines.

LOCATION: 3505 N. DRIES LANE, PEORIA, ILLINOIS
HOURS: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Monday through Friday
This is specialized technical parts store work. The work involves procuring and issuing fleet parts, tools and supplies for equipment maintenance personnel in one location; utilizing the central computerized purchasing system to accomplish and document purchases; maintaining and utilizing manual and computerized recordkeeping systems; setting up, stocking and maintaining parts and supplies inventories at one location; and performing special projects as assigned. The work is performed within established guidelines and under the general supervision of the Assistant Fire Chief and involves the regular exercise of independent judgment relative to purchasing decisions, priority setting, and other aspects of the work.Works with staff in procuring all parts and supplies required to perform the functions of the division.
Obtains prices or bids on materials prior to purchase.
Receives items from vendors.
Maintains proper inventory levels as specified.
Picks up emergency parts and supplies as required.
Returns unneeded parts to vendors.
Records items placed in stock on inventory cards.
Interviews prospective vendors and maintains working relationships with local vendors.
Checks computer for stocking levels and part locations as necessary.
Maintains parts and equipment manuals in good order.
Files completed job orders and equipment data sheets.
Maintains the parts room in a clean and orderly manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED; and two to four years of progressively responsible related experience, required to have a valid State Driver’s License. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Parts, equipment and supplies utilized in a fleet maintenance operation.
Principles and practices of inventory systems.
All applicable purchasing policies and procedures.
Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.
Standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals.
All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
