Job summary

Coastal CAT in Fort Myers is seeking a Parts Counter Salesperson to be the first point of contact for customers seeking heavy equipment parts and supplies. You will assist with part identification, pricing, and order processing while maintaining accurate inventories and displays.

You will work with service technicians and other departments to support repair operations, provide timely information on availability and lead times, and ensure exceptional customer service in a fast-paced dealership

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Technical school training in diesel technology, mechanics, or related fields preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in parts sales, equipment service, or related fields beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers at the parts counter, by phone, and via digital channels
• Identify correct parts using catalogs, diagrams, and internal systems
• Process orders, returns, and special requests accurately
• Maintain parts displays, stock levels, and inventory organization
• Coordinate with service technicians and internal departments to support repair operations

• Support warehouse functions such as pulling, staging, and shipping parts as needed

Position Scope

The Parts Counter Salesperson serves as a primary point of contact for customers seeking parts, supplies, and product information for heavy equipment. This role supports both internal and external customers by providing accurate parts identification, order processing, inventory coordination, and exceptional service. The position directly contributes to customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and overall parts department performance.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

• Strong understanding of heavy equipment components, systems, and parts terminology
• Ability to read parts diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
• Proficiency with inventory management systems and point of sale software
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment

Preferred Qualification(s)

• Prior experience in a dealership, equipment rental, or machinery service environment
• Familiarity with Caterpillar parts or similar OEM product lines
• Experience with counter sales or technical sales

• Familiarity with Caterpillar SIS or similar parts lookup systems
• Ability to build strong customer relationships

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and handle parts of varying sizes
• Extended periods of standing at the counter
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Work Environment

• Primarily indoor parts counter and warehouse environment
• Frequent interaction with customers, technicians, and vendors
• Exposure to noise, dust, and equipment typical of a machinery dealership

Most work is conducted in a comfortable office environment but exposure to site conditions may also occur. Personal protective equipment must be worn in areas as required. Although the work usually is not considered inherently dangerous, employees must be careful while performing onsite services.
