Job description

Location: San Francisco Bay Area | Type: Full Time | Experience: 18+ years | Pay: $300K-$400K plus bonus and equity

About the Role

This is a Partner seat in the densest life sciences market in the country. You'll own the senior relationships, set the technical position on the accounting matters that decide whether a company gets out the door, and carry accountability for the practice's growth across the Bay Area.

The firm is a national accounting and finance advisory practice that operates as the alternative to the Big Four for companies who need technical depth without an audit relationship attached. Nearly everyone here came from Deloitte, EY, KPMG, or PwC. Clients run from venture-backed clinical-stage biotechs to publicly traded pharma, device, and diagnostics companies.

South San Francisco and the surrounding peninsula produce more clinical-stage companies, more crossover rounds, and more first-time filers than anywhere else. That means constant demand for someone who can sit across from a CFO the week before an S-1 goes in and be right. If that has been your work at a Big Four firm and you want the ownership that goes with it, read on.

What You'll Do
  • Advise CFOs, Chief Accounting Officers, Controllers, audit committees, and boards at venture-backed, clinical-stage, commercial, and public life sciences companies
  • Take positions on the sector's hardest matters: R&D, clinical trial and CRO accruals, CDMO arrangements, collaboration and licensing structures, royalty and milestone arrangements, IPRD, business combinations and asset acquisitions, and revenue recognition at commercialization
  • Lead IPO readiness and public-company readiness work, including registration statements, reverse mergers, and the S-1, S-3, 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K deliverables that accompany them
  • Advise on convertible instruments, warrants, preferred equity, and stock-based compensation as companies move through financing rounds
  • Own the economics of your engagements: scope, staffing, budgets, margin, quality, risk, client satisfaction
  • Originate work through your own network and through referrals from the venture and crossover investors, life sciences attorneys, and audit partners who move deals in this market
  • Review technical memoranda, financial statements, filings, and audit committee materials before they leave the firm
  • Build and promote a senior bench, and bring the firm's transaction, valuation, tax, technology, data, and risk capabilities into client conversations
Qualifications
Required
  • 18+ years across public accounting, accounting advisory, consulting, or senior corporate accounting and finance
  • Big Four background (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) or a comparable large advisory firm
  • Technical accounting services experience: FAAS, CMAAS, Accounting Advisory, Capital Markets Advisory, or an equivalent group
  • Substantial life sciences client experience across biotech, pharma, medical device, or diagnostics
  • Active CPA license
  • Authority in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting on ambiguous, high-stakes fact patterns
What Sets You Apart
  • A sustained record of originating new business in a competitive market
  • Ownership of a portfolio, vertical, or service line with delivery, staffing, quality, and economic accountability
  • Life sciences clients spanning clinical-stage, pre-commercial, commercial, and public
  • Leadership on IPO readiness, reverse mergers, financings, acquisitions, or divestitures
  • Relationships with Bay Area life sciences investors, attorneys, auditors, and executives
  • A prior seat as Chief Accounting Officer, Controller, or senior finance executive in a life sciences company
  • Familiarity with Workiva or ActiveDisclosure
  • Speaking, publishing, or training work in life sciences accounting
Why Join Us

Partners here own the client, own the technical call, and own a piece of the outcome. That combination is the reason the firm keeps drawing people out of the Big Four rather than losing them to it.

The Bay Area practice is a market where a single well-connected Partner can move the number materially. The comp reflects that, and so does the mandate.
