Job description

Location: Houston, TX | Type: Full Time | Experience: 18+ years | Pay: $250K-$325K plus bonus and equity

About the Role

This is a Partner seat built around a market that is still being claimed. You'll own the senior client relationships across Houston and the broader Texas life sciences base, set technical direction on the accounting matters that decide whether a filing holds up, and carry accountability for growing the practice here.

The firm is a national accounting and finance advisory practice that serves as the alternative to the Big Four for companies who want technical depth without an audit relationship attached. Almost everyone came from Deloitte, EY, KPMG, or PwC. Clients range from venture-backed clinical-stage companies to publicly traded pharma, device, and diagnostics organizations.

Houston has the largest medical complex in the world and a device, diagnostics, and translational biotech scene that has grown up around it, with spillover into Austin and Dallas. It is under-served by firms with genuine life sciences technical accounting depth. If you've built that depth at a Big Four firm and want to be the person clients in this market call first, this is the seat.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as senior advisor to CFOs, Chief Accounting Officers, Controllers, audit committees, and boards across clinical-stage, commercial, and public life sciences companies
  • Resolve the matters that define the sector: R&D, clinical trial and CRO accruals, CDMO arrangements, collaboration and licensing agreements, royalties and milestones, IPRD, and revenue recognition at launch
  • Run capital-markets engagements including IPO readiness, public-company readiness, reverse mergers, and registration statements, with the S-1, 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K work that follows
  • Lead audit readiness, financial statement preparation, close optimization, and internal control build-out for companies going public for the first time
  • Own scope, staffing, budgets, margin, quality, and risk across your engagements
  • Build the Houston pipeline through your own network, referrals from investors, attorneys, and auditors, and real presence in the local ecosystem
  • Review the technical memoranda, filings, and executive materials that go to boards and audit committees
  • Recruit, mentor, and promote Managers, Senior Managers, and Directors, and bring the firm's transaction, valuation, tax, and technology teams into client conversations

Qualifications

Required

  • 18+ years in public accounting, accounting advisory, consulting, or senior corporate accounting and finance
  • Big Four experience (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) or a comparable large advisory firm
  • Technical accounting services background: FAAS, CMAAS, Accounting Advisory, Capital Markets Advisory, or an equivalent group
  • Meaningful life sciences client experience across biotech, pharma, medical device, or diagnostics
  • Active CPA license
  • Deep working command of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements

What Sets You Apart

  • Demonstrated business origination through your own relationships, referrals, and proposals
  • Responsibility for a portfolio, vertical, or service line, including delivery, staffing, quality, and economics
  • Experience with life sciences companies at several stages of maturity
  • IPO readiness, reverse-merger, financing, acquisition, or divestiture engagement leadership
  • A prior operating seat as Chief Accounting Officer, Controller, or senior finance executive in life sciences
  • Existing relationships with Texas-based investors, attorneys, auditors, and life sciences executives
  • Experience with Workiva or ActiveDisclosure
  • Published technical content, conference speaking, or training you've developed

Why Join Us

The firm gives senior technical people something the Big Four structurally cannot: ownership of the relationship and a share of what you build. Partners here are the technical authority and the commercial owner at the same time.

Houston is a market where the right Partner can build something that did not exist before. If that's the version of the job you want, this one is worth a conversation.
