Job summary

Catholic Community Services seeks a Center Assistant for its Lake City tutoring center in Seattle. The role is part-time and in-person, with afternoon hours during the school year and summer. The assistant will support the center supervisor, assist with tutoring sessions, and help manage materials and volunteers.

Ideal candidates have 1 year of tutoring or teaching experience, strong interpersonal skills, and cultural competence. Bilingual in East African languages or Vietnamese is a plus.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year relevant classroom or after-school experience in teaching or tutoring youth.
• One year of post-secondary education in a related field; additional experience may substitute for education.
• Proven ability to work with youth in a respectful and caring manner, focusing on self-esteem and academic skills.
• Cultural competence in working with low-income youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Afternoon availability for summer 2:00–5:00 pm and during school year 4:00–8:00 pm.

Responsibilities

• Assist Center Supervisor in planning and coordinating after-school tutoring.
• Assess students in math and language arts; develop individualized learning goals.
• Monitor learning goals and activities by youth interns and volunteers.
• Maintain organized learning materials and resources.
• Support volunteers and interns with training and mentoring.
• Assist in daily management of center activities and tutoring sessions.
