Job summary

Youth Tutoring Program (YTP) in Seattle is hiring a Center Assistant for the Lake City Court tutoring center for the school year and summer programming. This in-person, part-time role averages 12 hours per week, with shifts 12:30-4:30 PM or 4-8 PM depending on term.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of classroom or after-school tutoring experience.
• One year of post-secondary education; additional related experience may substitute for education.
• Ability to work with youth respectfully and care.
• Cultural competence with low-income youth and diverse backgrounds.
• Strong reading, writing and math skills.
• Excellent classroom management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Afternoon availability; summer hours 2:00–5:00 pm, M–Th; 4–8 pm in school year.
• Criminal history background checks are required prior to employment.
• Bilingual in East African language, Spanish, or Vietnamese (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Center Supervisor in planning and coordinating after-school tutoring.
• Assess students in math and language arts; develop individualized learning goals.
• Monitor progress of goals and activities by interns and volunteers.
• Maintain organized learning materials and resources.
• Support volunteers and student pairs during tutoring sessions.
• Assist in training and mentoring interns and volunteers.
• Manage daily center activities and operations.
• Tutor and mentor students individually or in small groups.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment and culturally diverse practices.
• Record keeping and tracking student academic progress; attend trainings and staff meetings.
