Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a Sports Instructor to lead sports classes for children and adults at the Waltham site. Classes are held weekday afternoons and weekend mornings, requiring strong communication with families and participants.

You will coach using a provided curriculum and design your own drills, emphasize skill development and sportsmanship, and model the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years related experience preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen certifications provided upon hire.
• Child Abuse Prevention Training provided upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Coaches sports programs using provided curriculum and curriculum of their own design emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship and the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honest, Respect and Responsibility.
• Demonstrates designed skills and outcomes to foster learning and skill development.
• Maintains group focus and attention to activities, with a strong coaching presence and positive redirection when needed.
• Meets players where they are at in age and skill level; challenges them with achievable skills, drills and games.
• Maintains a safe playing environment by reducing risks and ensuring guidelines are followed.
• Prepares for each class session by reviewing skills and drills, sets up play area and cleans up afterward.
