Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Part-Time Program Assistant (youth programs) to support youth activities and ensure a safe, engaging environment. The position requires at least a high school diploma and is 16+, with First Aid/CPR and child abuse prevention training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 16 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; School-issued work permit for under 18.
  • Related experience with school-age children is preferred; ability to plan and implement activities.
  • Current First Aid and CPR (Adult, Infant and Child) certifications; child abuse prevention training prior to first day.

Responsibilities

  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming that builds achievement and belonging.
  • Maintains close supervision of assigned children and follows required ratios.
  • No child is left unsupervised; never staff alone with a child.
  • Use positive behavior guidance with constructive discipline and redirection.
  • Support inclusion and ADA compliance where appropriate.
  • Plan and implement classes around a topic and skill mastery; culminate in a showcase.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and program records per YMCA standards.
  • Engage parents and volunteers; connect them to the YMCA.
  • Attend family events, program activities, staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follow YMCA policies including safety, supervision, reporting and emergencies.
