Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a Program Assistant (youth programs) for the Montebello Family YMCA in Montebello, CA. The role focuses on building positive relationships with children and families while promoting youth development and inclusion.

The position is part-time (up to 29 hours) with a pay rate of $18.47 per hour. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and have or be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certifications and child abuse prevention training prior to starting.

Qualifications

• AGE: 16 years or older.
• EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. School-issued work permit required for employees under the age of 18.
• RELATED EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working with school-age children in a group setting is preferred and ability to plan and implement activities.
• SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values, strong communication skills, emotional maturity.
• LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Current approved First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications; child abuse prevention training prior to first day in program.

Responsibilities

• Nurtures children through purposeful programming focused on achievement and belonging.
• Maintains close supervision of a group of children.
• Help children manage behavior using positive approaches and constructive discipline.
• Promotes inclusion and ADA compliance where appropriate.
• Plan and implement classes focused on topics and skill mastery.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness, and program records per YMCA standards.
• Engage parents and involve them as volunteers and connectors to the YMCA.
• Attend meetings and trainings, and comply with all YMCA policies.
