Job summary

Theuniversityunion is seeking a Youth Counselor to lead, develop and build relationships with youth participants under the Youth Program Director. This part-time, non-exempt role supports the YMCA's mission by delivering engaging activities from Monday through Friday.

You will work with diverse youth, supervise and implement programs, ensure safety, and participate in staff meetings. Prior experience is preferred but not required; at least 16 years old; strong communication in English.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Experience with children/teens preferred but not required.
  • Experience in outdoor education or organizing activities is preferred.
  • Certifications or trainings may be required.
  • Ability to relate to diverse groups in the community.
  • Multilingual is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and build relationships with elementary/middle school students.
  • Plan and run culturally relevant activities aligned with YMCA values.
  • Lead special camper activities, including water/swim at sites.
  • Create a fun, safe, friendly and challenging atmosphere.
  • Model responsible behavior and mentor youth.
  • Foster positive relationships with campers, parents and staff.
  • Follow YMCA policies on medical, safety and discipline matters.
  • Maintain space and equipment; keep area clean daily.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Develop community relations and maintain clear communication.
