Job summary

Theuniversityunion in Raleigh, NC is hiring a Youth Counselor to lead and develop relationships with youth participants in the program. You will work under the Youth Program Director to ensure activities align with mission and policies, while fostering a safe, engaging environment.

Responsibilities include supervising groups, delivering developmentally appropriate activities, and maintaining strong communication with campers, parents, and staff. Requires 16+ and a team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• At least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children or teens preferred but not required.
• Experience preferred in outdoor education, planning and organizing activities, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports, recreational games, etc.
• Multilingual desired but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and builds relationships with elementary and/or middle school Track Out students.
• Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
• Leads special activities for campers, including water and swim activities at participating sites.
• Creates an atmosphere that is fun, safe, friendly and challenging.
• Mentors and models responsible behavior while leading children in the program.
• Models and facilitates relationship-building skills in all interactions and maintains positive relationships with campers, parents, school staff and YMCA staff.
• Adheres to YMCA policies and procedures including medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency management.
• Ensures space and equipment are cared for and left in good, clean condition daily.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and communicates clearly within responsibility area.
