Job summary

University Settlement Society Of New York is seeking a dedicated Youth Program Assistant to support group leaders in delivering engaging activities for up to 20 youth. The role focuses on safety, inclusivity, and positive youth development during a 10-month partial-year program.

You will assist with lesson planning, document essential records, and collaborate with staff to create a supportive and enriching environment after school and during the afternoon sessions, 17.5 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or HSE; or 1 year of experience working with children under 13.
• Must be at least 16 years of age with up-to-date working papers.
• Ability to commit for the entire season.

Responsibilities

• Assist Group Leaders in creating and implementing engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program
• Support Group Leaders in designing and implementing lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout the summer
• Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times
• Work constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff
• Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms
• Assist the Group Leaders with completing all necessary documentation and administrative tasks
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s)
