Job summary

University Settlement Society of New York is seeking a Part-Time Youth Program Assistant to support group leaders in delivering engaging activities for up to 20 youth and to assist with lesson planning using positive youth development principles. You will model professional behavior, ensure youth safety, and collaborate with staff to maintain supplies and spaces.

Responsibilities include documenting tasks, communicating with supervision, and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or HSE preferred, or 1 year of experience working with children under 13.
• Must be at least 16 years old with up-to-date working papers.
• Ability to commit for the entire season.
• Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive.

Responsibilities

• Assist Group Leaders in creating and implementing activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program.
• Support Group Leaders in designing and implementing lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout the summer.
• Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times.
• Work constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff.
• Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms.
• Assist the Group Leaders with completing all necessary documentation and administrative tasks.
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s).
