Job summary

University Settlement Society Of New York in Brooklyn is seeking a Part Time Youth Program Assistant to support group leaders and help run activities for up to 20 youth. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and positive youth development in a program running 3:00pm–6:00pm, Monday–Friday.

The position is a 10-month term, with duties including lesson planning, documentation, and collaboration with staff to ensure engaging, inclusive activities for diverse youth populations.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or HSE preferred, or 1 year of experience working with children less than 13 years old.
• Must be at least 16 years of age with up-to-date working papers.
• Ability to commit for the entire season.
• Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive.

Responsibilities

• Assist Group Leaders in creating and implementing engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program.
• Support Group Leaders in designing and implementing lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout the summer.
• Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times.
• Work constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff.
• Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms.
• Assist the Group Leaders with completing all necessary documentation and administrative tasks.
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s)
