Job summary

Federal Express Corporation seeks a part-time Switcher/Package Handler to move trailers within the yard and assist with loading/unloading packages. Responsibilities include coordinating trailer movements, performing safety inspections, and using the Yard Management System.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.

Responsibilities

• Performs trailer switches defined as hooking and moving a parked trailer from the yard to a load/unload door or from a door to the yard.
• Communicates with management to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Documents trailer moves using the Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Understands and demonstrates safe yard switching procedures.
• Loads and unloads packages onto or from delivery vehicles and trailers.
• Sorts packages by scanning labels and charts and placing them accordingly.
