Job summary

State of Florida, Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County, seeks a part-time WIC Support Specialist to provide breastfeeding information and guidance to new mothers. You will work up to 20 hours per week, offering help via telephone, home visits, and hospital visits while maintaining records and coordinating referrals.

You’ll participate in prenatal classes and staff meetings, read assigned materials, and support breastfeeding peer counseling.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and customer services skills.
• Ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner.
• Knowledge and experience with data entry and/or documentation practices.
• Experience working with computers and basic office equipment.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including benefits, overcoming barriers, and starting breastfeeding.
• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits, and hospital visits at scheduled intervals.
• Keeps accurate records of all contacts with WIC mothers and refers to specialists as needed.
• Attends prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups; participates in staff meetings and conferences.
• Reads assigned breastfeeding materials and may assist with special projects.
• Performs other duties in support of the Agency’s mission.
