Job summary

The State of Florida, Department of Health in Okaloosa County, is seeking an OPS Family Support Worker for a part-time role (20 hours per week) in Crestview, FL. The position supports new mothers with breastfeeding guidance and coordinates with WIC services to promote maternal and child health.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, experience in customer service, and proficiency with data entry and Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and customer services skills.
• Ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner.
• Knowledge and experience with data entry and/or documentation practices.
• Experience working with computers and basic office equipment; proficient with Word/Outlook/Excel/Teams.

Responsibilities

• Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including benefits and overcoming barriers.
• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits, and hospital visits at scheduled intervals.
• Keeps accurate records of all contacts with WIC mothers and refers to nutritionist or breastfeeding coordinator as needed.
• Attends prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups and participates in staff meetings and workshops.
• Reads assigned breastfeeding materials provided by supervisor.
• May assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling and other duties as assigned.
