Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Health seeks a Breastfeeding Support Specialist to promote breastfeeding and provide practical support to WIC participants in the community, at work sites, and within healthcare settings.

Under supervision, you will conduct prenatal contacts, assist with breastfeeding education, and maintain confidential records while collaborating with the Breastfeeding Coordinator and other staff. Hybrid work options may apply after 12 months.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant human services or social services experience.
• Breastfeeding experience or enthusiasm required; willing to recruit from WIC population.

Responsibilities

• Promote breastfeeding in community, workplace, and health care system.
• Provide breastfeeding support to WIC participants via hospital visits, home visits, and calls.
• Contact and follow up with breastfeeding mothers post-delivery weekly for three weeks, then monthly.
• Refer complex cases to Breastfeeding Coordinator or Designated Breastfeeding Expert.
• Maintain accurate records and attend scheduled meetings; assist with training.
• Travel across the Lowcountry Region as needed.
