Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Clay County is seeking an OPS Family Support Worker to counsel women in the WIC clinic and provide breastfeeding information and support to new mothers. The role is part-time (25-29 hours per week) with occasional after-hours duties and requires careful record-keeping and confidentiality.

The position supports clients through outreach to outlying clinics, referrals to nutritionists and lactation consultants, and participation in trainings and meetings.

Qualifications

• Work approximately 25-29 hours per week.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Applications.
• Knowledge of States of Florida Personnel Rules and applicable Florida Statues.
• Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports timely.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Skilled at data entry.
• Skilled at prioritizing and organizing a heavy workload.
• Detailed-oriented.
• Skilled at exceptional customer service.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Counsel women in the WIC clinic.
• Receive a caseload of WIC clients and make routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned.
• Give basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including benefits of breastfeeding and overcoming barriers.
• Available outside usual 8 to 5 working hours to new mothers with breastfeeding problems.
• Respect client confidentiality and keep records of all contacts.
• Work in outlying clinics as assigned.
• Refer mothers to WIC nutritionist, lactation consultant, or physicians as appropriate.
• Attend breastfeeding classes and support groups.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Complete forms by deadlines.
• Assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding peer counseling.
• Other duties assigned by supervisor.
