Job summary

The Spence School is seeking a part-time leave replacement in Middle and Upper School Visual Arts. The candidate will join a dynamic team of multidisciplinary artists guiding students through a curriculum grounded in artistic technique and experimentation. The ideal candidate is a practicing artist with a passion for teaching and a collaborative spirit.

The position runs from April 7, 2025 to June 18, 2025 and includes benefits for a part-time role (80%).

Qualifications

• Experience teaching visual arts to middle and upper school students.
• Focus on ceramics and painting/drawing.
• Masters degree or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach one general studio art class (Grade 7), one ceramics class (Grade 8), and painting and drawing classes (Grades 9 and 10).
• Share in the responsibilities for maintaining the ceramics studio.
• Participate in department-wide initiatives addressing equity, pedagogy, and curriculum.
• Cultivate and maintain a classroom culture of openness, mutual respect, kindness, and inquiry.
