Job summary

Texas American Federation of Teachers (AFT) seeks reliable Part-Time Organizers to support the growth of a self-sustaining local union. The PTO will implement a strategic organizing plan and meet goals set with the program coordinator and local leadership.

Responsibilities include recruiting members, coordinating with the PTO Program Coordinator, conducting worksite and campus visits, and maintaining detailed records of conversations and progress.

Qualifications

• Experience leading union or grassroots organizing
• Ability to collaborate in a team and plan meetings
• Strong time-management skills and independence
• Outgoing demeanor and facilitation of conversations
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Reliable transportation to visits and events

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with the Texas AFT PTO Program Coordinator on a daily and or weekly basis
• Recruit new members and identify new union activists/leaders (build the capacity and density of the local union)
• Share local union's campaign messages in day-to-day organizing conversations
• Conduct worksite and campus visits as well as off-campus recruitment events
• Plan out a strategy for recruitment and organizing in consultation with program coordinator and keep a detailed calendar of organizing activities
• Maintain a detailed record of organizing conversations (assessments) and provide regular reporting of organizing progress
