Job summary

Advocate Health in Kenosha, WI is seeking a part-time ultrasound extern to support the Ultrasound department. You will operate ultrasound equipment for general and vascular studies, review patient information, and assist with exam accuracy under supervision.

Currently enrolled in an accredited sonography program, you will develop clinical competency in abdominal, pelvic, and vascular exams, document procedures, and maintain patient safety and comfort throughout imaging sessions.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Sonography.
• Completion of a minimum of twelve (12) months training in an accredited program in Sonography.
• Clinical competency in abdominal, pelvic and routine vascular exams or those sonographic exams routinely performed by the hiring department.
• Knowledge of department, facility, and organization policies and protocols.
• Ability to effectively communicate with patients and caregivers using excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize, work independently and manage simultaneous assignments.
• Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant change.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Operates ultrasound equipment to perform general and/or vascular procedures/studies.
• Reviews patient history, lab results, and physician orders to ensure exam accuracy.
• Positions patient and selects transducer and factors for accurate images while ensuring safety and comfort.
• Identifies and labels images with patient identifiers and scan location.
• Documents billing codes and enters data into radiology information systems.
• Communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
