Responsibilities

Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicles are safe and well-maintained.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
• Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify the supervisor of issues.
• Verify safety equipment is present and functional; report problems.
• Complete all paperwork accurately and timely.
• Secure detainees properly during transport, ensuring all documentation is complete.
• Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transportation.
• Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
• Manage vehicle servicing and pickups.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; valid state driver’s license.
• Three years’ experience handling prisoners or as a law enforcement or military police officer.
• At least 21 years old, U.S. citizen.
• 80 hours of verified driver’s training.
• State Firearms and Security Guard licenses.
• Completed certified training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Clean driving record for past three years; pass drug and alcohol tests.
• Ability to work overtime, travel, handle stress, and work extended hours.
• Ability to work with computers.
