Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer securely transports detainees and ensures vehicles are safe and well-maintained.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct vehicle inspections before, during, and after trips.
- Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips and report issues.
- Verify safety equipment is on vehicles before trips and report problems.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and submit according to policies.
- Secure detainees properly during transport and ensure paperwork is complete.
- Follow all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures during transportation.
- Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
- Service and pick up vehicles as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and applicable state requisites.
- At least three years of experience handling prisoners or as a law enforcement/military officer.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license.
- 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
- State Firearms and Security Guard licenses.
- Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or violations in the past three years.
- Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
- Reliable, mature, flexible, and able to command respect.
- Proficient with computers and software used by the department.
- Possibly obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate after hire.
