Responsibilities

Summary

The Transportation Officer securely transports detainees and ensures vehicles are safe and well-maintained.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct vehicle inspections before, during, and after trips.
• Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
• Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips and report issues.
• Verify safety equipment is on vehicles before trips and report problems.
• Complete all paperwork accurately and submit according to policies.
• Secure detainees properly during transport and ensure paperwork is complete.
• Follow all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures during transportation.
• Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
• Service and pick up vehicles as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and applicable state requisites.
• At least three years of experience handling prisoners or as a law enforcement/military officer.
• Minimum age of 21 years.
• U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license.
• 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
• State Firearms and Security Guard licenses.
• Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or violations in the past three years.
• Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
• Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
• Reliable, mature, flexible, and able to command respect.
• Proficient with computers and software used by the department.
• Possibly obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate after hire.
