Job summary

Mendocino Railway’s River Fox Train in West Sacramento is seeking a Conductor or Train Engineer for part-time operations. The role requires FRA Engineer and/or Conductor certification and a strong safety-focused approach.

You will interact with passengers, operate trains, and perform safety inspections in accordance with FRA rules and company procedures. Work includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, with shifts up to 12 hours and multiple days per week.

Qualifications

• Must hold FRA Locomotive Engineer and/or FRA Conductor certification in good standing.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English clearly.
• Strong problem-solving and situational awareness for a safety-sensitive role.
• Ability to work as part of a train crew and communicate professionally.

Responsibilities

• Operate trains safely in compliance with FRA regulations and company rules.
• Coordinate with dispatchers and senior crew for safe passenger movement.
• Perform inspections and ensure safety checks before movement.
• Assist with tying up, switching, and coupling as required.
• Provide courteous, guest-facing service to passengers during trips.
