Job summary

The River Fox Train, operated by Mendocino Railway, in West Sacramento, is seeking a Conductor or Train Engineer for a part-time role. Candidates must already hold FRA Engineer and/or Conductor certification and be able to operate safely and professionally in a rail environment.

Qualified applicants will work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and will communicate with passengers and crew while maintaining strict safety standards and FRA compliance.

Qualifications

• Must currently hold FRA Locomotive Engineer certification (49 CFR Part 240) and/or FRA Conductor certification (49 CFR Part 242), in good standing.
• Ability to receive, understand, communicate and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong situational awareness and ability to remain focused in a dynamic, safety-sensitive environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate trains safely in accordance with FRA regulations and company rules.
• Coordinate with senior crew, dispatchers, and management to ensure safe passenger movement.
• Maintain awareness of train location, speed, signals, and safety procedures.
• Observe signals and respond to changing conditions; report safety concerns.
• Maintain FRA certifications and qualifications including recurrent training and testing.
• Assist with minor troubleshooting and coordination with maintenance as needed.
