Job description

The Test Proctor administers and proctors tests and provides front desk and clerical support for the office of Disability Support Services. The Test Proctor checks to ensure testing systems are running smoothly and that virtual tools are functioning properly. The Test Proctor receives requests to take exams with DSS from students and communicates with faculty to ensure exam administered in accordance with exam instructions from the faculty. The Test Proctor actively proctors students while they are testing to ensure academic integrity and to document the testing accommodations. The Test Proctor maintains detailed records of all DSS testing activity. The DSS Test Proctor can perform a wide range of duties before, during, and after an examination, as they are accountable for all aspects of the testing process and the security of test materials.

Responsibilities
  • Assists FT Test Proctor with developing and maintaining best practice testing policies in relation to the administration of exams to students registered with DSS with approved testing accommodations.
  • Communicates with students and faculty and other key stakeholders in a timely, consistent and professional manner to student’s DSS approved testing accommodations are facilitated in accordance with the American with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAA) and other Disability related laws.
  • Prepares test center, testing rooms or virtual environments for the administration of tests in accordance with the student’s approved testing accommodations.
  • Engages regularly with specialized academic departments, including BHCC Nursing faculty to ensure exams are administered in accordance with the academic dept. policies.
  • Elevates any student or faculty concern as needed to the Director of Disability Services.
  • Reviews DSS Testing Policy and forms and ensures student signs Testing Policy form in acknowledgment.
  • Explains test day procedures and rules to students, checking for understanding and documenting any questions or concerns raised.
  • Monitors and observes students and participants during testing.
  • Maintains distraction-reduced, quiet testing environments as directed or required.
  • Acts as Reader by reading and/or reviewing test and or testing materials for students in accordance with the student’s testing accommodations.
  • Acts as Scribe by typing or writing student’s dictated answers in accordance with the student’s testing accommodations.
  • Acts as Classroom Notetaker as needed for students with this DSS approved accommodation.
  • Collects test and testing materials as required at the end of test.
  • Confirms student identification and ensures the student is the scheduled participant.
  • Collaborates with BHCC offices, DSS administrative, counseling and office staff with regard to testing protocols and procedures.
  • Exercises discretion and confidentiality, staying compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act and all other mandates as directed.
  • Addresses testing-related issues in collaboration with the Director of Disability and Disability Support Service Counselors.
  • Ensures academic integrity is upheld in the DSS testing center.
  • Maintains a schedule of all DSS testing center exams and scans and returns each completed exam via email or other means in a timely manner to the faculty.
  • Documents student interactions in internal management system as needed.
  • Assists Administrative Assistant with front desk tasks, covering the front desk when necessary.
  • Assists DSS office staff with other tasks as needed and as assigned by the Director of Disability Services.
  • Assists with maintaining office records, files, and contributes testing accommodation data for reports.
  • Provides support for students working in DSS computer areas and shares BHCC resource information.
Requirements
  • Flexibility with work hours as will be assigned hours in accordance with the needs of students and the DSS office.
  • Able to work with students with disabilities in a higher education small group or 1-1 setting.
  • Able to work in quiet, distraction free and isolated environment for hours at a time.
  • Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in office work.
  • High School Diploma may be substituted for one year of required experience.
  • Proficient computer, internet and web search skills including experience with MS office.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles, general office practices, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to respect and work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative manner.
Preferred Requirements
  • Associate's degree and experience as a Test Proctor or related experience preferred.
  • Prior work experience in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of Maxient, Zoom, Webex or other educational online data management systems and communication and testing platforms (Accuplacer, ATI, TEAS, etc.).
  • Understanding of FERPA, the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other relevant laws/regulations.
  • Experience using multiple training or testing formats in-person, online and hybrid.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities, including differing communication styles.
Salary

Salary: $26.26 per hour for 15-18 hours per week. Transitional temporary part‑time position. 16‑32 weeks potential term of employment, possibility for additional weeks to be determined. Early morning and occasional evening hours may be assigned.
