Job summary

The St. Cloud Area Family YMCA is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to teach swimming to people of all ages, following YMCA guidelines. This role emphasizes safety, customer service, and creating a fun, welcoming environment.

Requirements include minimum age 16, CPR/PR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 60 days, plus YMCA Swim Instructor certification. Weekend availability is needed; uniforms are provided and a staff membership is included.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16.
• Certifications required within 60 days of hire: CPR/PR, AED, and First Aid.
• Certifications required within 60 days of hire: YMCA Swim Instructor.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize swimmers who may need assistance.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and remedy hazardous/dangerous situations.
• Demonstrated ability to swim in shallow and deep water, and tread water.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with Y guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
• Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys basic information about aquatics programs and schedules and refers members and participants to other programs or staff member.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
• Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment; Reports damaged equipment. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
